Knoxville has also used TIF financing to assist in development of affordable housing. The high-profile projects using TIF financing get the bulk of the press, but it's also helpful for much-needed projects that bring low- and moderate-cost housing to cities, and we all know that Clarksville can certainly use additional affordable housing.

No additional requirements are imposed on landowners and this board is not given any powers or authority other than to decide which projects meet the specified criteria.

First we want to get it off the ground in Clarksville, and we'll take it to the county after one or more projects have been completed in the city.

Ultimately, this could mean more jobs and more investments in Clarksville. There are no specific projects in the works right now that are driving this, but we hope to find one after this passes to somewhat use as a 'guinea pig' to help work out the process.
