She's very smart and she's been able to do things. She's got friends here and a job cleaning buildings so she could do it, but she's scared. I want to help her get back to a more independent situation.

She was a very generous, serious and thoughtful critic and arts reporter. She didn't write like anybody else. She had such a personal voice. She wrote novels, too, which most people don't know. They're not published, but what really struck me about them were her powers of describing landscapes and plants, this extraordinary sensitivity to natural beauty.
