There are still feeding operations in Louisiana and Mississippi.

At one point Thursday, we were lined up at the door with people wanting to donate money. We've called in extra volunteers to help answer our phones because they are ringing constantly. It all goes to disaster relief and the need right now is shelter and food. Our shelters will stay open until there is no one there, until their needs are met.

We set up our first class for Sept. 9 and 10 and had 20 people immediately sign up. So it's full. We're working on our second class for Sept. 19 and 20 and there are openings.

I do believe the shelters are all closed at this time and they are trying to get people back into their homes. But, over 198,000 of the kits have been given out. I believe it's far from being over yet.

From our chapter, we still have one person down there.

Those are the kind of problems that can creep up with a disaster like this.

In addition, there has been a lot of donations made online and through the 800 number, but that figure is the money that has come directly through our door.

We are doing a countdown to the 2006 hurricane season. It's 139 days (as of Thursday) until it begins, if anyone is interested.
