It's a stunning achievement. It's exciting for North Coast growers to see these numbers because they've worked so hard to build this industry.

It's so remarkable to have a record year both in volume and price. But it's even more than that. It's a triple-crown win because there is such high quality in this vintage.

Certainly there are some time constraints and you see a lot of work crews working Saturdays to catch up.

That's not to say we don't have some very high-quality Zinfandel vineyards with colorful histories and unique locations.

The storm was so intense and arrived so quickly that people were unprepared to protect their assets. But there won't be any negative effect on the quality or quantity of next year's grapes or wines.

It's a mixed blessing. Some people just got a lot of soil and fertility and some people lost it.

There's no agreement in the industry on this. It's shocking to me that a public official would craft and deliver legislation that directly affects an industry without engaging its leaders.
