There's obvious tongue-in-cheek there. It's all about politics. That doesn't mean it's not fueled by personal interest as well as principle. But to not read politics into it is to say you're not paying attention.

It injures the Governor. The governor had a lot more to lose than the Democratic leadership. The danger to him is that it will appear that he can't control his own party.

There's some angst in his administration and in his campaign that speaks to not having the money they thought they'd have and at the other side spending so much on their ads. There are some people in the GOP who will see the ads and are breathing a little sigh of relief that at long last the battle has begun. He's beginning to fight back.

His TV ads have not been working and people are not as believing as perhaps they were. He's really been beaten up by his own misdeeds on one hand and the onslaught of negative ads from the other side.
