One of the reasons the Council originally objected to the Landmark project was that the applicant did not provide a shoring plan indicating how the hillside would be stabilized during the excavation. A shoring plan is still not available. If they start excavating they could trigger a slide. With temporary shoring we could at least know how they are going to hold that hill up there.
The families coming up here will be people who want to escape New Orleans and other Gulf Coast areas permanently.
There needs to be at some point some permanency to this thing. And I think that's what our concern was. We're not trying to tell Auburn who should be the chief executive officer. (We're) asking them to go ahead and make decisions.
The first meeting was designed by the Birmingham Regional Planning Commission to judge what we saw as strengths and weaknesses in the town.
What we're hoping for is to come up with a generalized plan of how people want to see the town develop.
All the families will be given a thorough medical and criminal history check, ... Once they are cleared, they can then transition up here.
