I've been working all year long with [hitting coach Gene Clines] and I think that's one of the differences. It works.

I think he's the same Greg. He just keeps doing what he does best -- stays ahead in the count against hitters and keeps working as he always does.

I was ready. I knew that guy was running. You can never get caught by surprise. I'm glad everything came out fine.

Everybody knows he's still young, ... I'm sure he's starting to realize [how good he is]. I've seen a few changes this year, and he's going to keep doing it so he can be the best.

We needed that badly to get closer to .500.

I think he's showing everybody he still can do it. Everybody knows his age, but I don't think it means anything. All I can tell you is, he's still smart. He's as smart as when he was 20, and that's what it takes. He doesn't throw hard, he doesn't overpower hitters, he just does what he's capable of doing.

With his confidence, the way he works and the way he goes about his business, he's capable of (passing Clemens). His knowledge of the game is so good and he knows what to do when he's up there.

He just has a passion for the game.

All I can tell you is he's still smart. He's still Maddux, he's still the same as when he was 20. He doesn't throw hard, he doesn't overpower hitters. He does what he's capable of doing, which is get ahead and go from there.
