He was a lineman for the University of Michigan American football/football team from 1923-1925 where he was selected as a first-team All-American in 1925. Fielding H. Yost called him the "greatest lineman of the year." He was also the national champion in the hammer throw in 1926. Hawkins later had a successful career as an engineer in the automotive industry.

Brian has had to come through a lot over the past while. It just seems to have been one knock after another - but I guess that's professional boxing and we're getting used to that.
Brian knows that he was robbed in Germany but I believe that is all behind him now and he's ready to put on a good show.
