I'd like to say we made him into a player. But we didn't. We showed him how to block and who to block and he took it from there. He's just a natural.

I understand why he can do both (offense and defense) because he's an amazing athlete. He's agile, with great feet and great quickness.

He said he wanted to play defensive end, and he could have. But we were in bad need of a tight end.

He said he just didn't want to play. He was out there for all the wrong reasons.

At Shaw, we didn't allow seniors to go out for football. I just felt it wasn't fair to the seniors. But we were desperate.

I never had a player come so far so quickly. I'm not surprised at anything he does.

When I got here (at West Jeff in 2002 following a sterling career at Archbishop Shaw), I heard there was this great athlete at the school, but I couldn't get him to come out.
