I have been blessed with the support and encouragement of many people. I am especially grateful and proud of my community's support for my nomination.
They're taking the position the sky would be falling ... I think that's advocacy. All these different scenarios and examples have not occurred; the business of the court continues to be pretty much the way it was. I respect Charlie, (but) he's an advocate and I think there's a bit of a stretch concerning the effect of the order.
The judges are naturally sensitive to data sets that affect their judicial autonomy.
That's not the way we're looking at it. We're looking at it from the standpoint the judges are protecting their autonomy. But they're not afraid of the scrutiny. They work hard and that's one of the unfortunate parts of this, the suggestion they don't work hard.
We haven't addressed that. It's not their primary concern or my primary concern. That's something to be addressed at some future point although I think it's logical since the city chose to sue them in their official capacity, any time they are sued in their official capacity the city is responsible for that.
It is unfortunately not uncommon for judges to be sued. There's current litigation against them in which they are being sued in their official capacity ... in fact the city attorney's office is representing them.
In the evidence it came out that one of the flight attendants stated that Ms. Carrington reminded her of a terrorist, and in our views she was the victim of profiling stereotypes and discrimination.
I think all of us are concerned about security, but I think the lesson -- and I think it's a national lesson -- is you can't have uncontrolled power that affects individual rights. ... they (jurors) were not going to let a company simply under the guise of security fly and trample on a person's rights.
