He'll most likely be found guilty, and he knows it. It's almost impossible for him to win - the case is a clear breach of the law on Holocaust denial.

This lecture took place 17 years ago. He is an English citizen. He doesn't live in Austria and he is 68 years old. He is not really dangerous, especially not to Austria.

Irving had expected certain strictness by the court because he was a very well known case. But the sentence was too harsh. It became a bit of a (political) message trial and the message was too strong.
