Amy has above-average speed, but I wouldn't consider her a power pitcher. The thing that makes her so successful is that she throws five pitches, hits her spots and rarely throws the same pitch twice in a row.

It marked just our second time on the field so far. Considering that we haven't had an opportunity to work outdoors, I'm not complaining about the way we looked. Amy pitched from behind more than I would like, but she did a solid job. We have work to do, but this is a nice start.

She just continues to come up with big hits. But we got lucky and gutted it out. We had a lot of plays that went for errors.

It was a really well-played game for this time of the year. I know I'm really proud of the way our kids came back. We were down 2-0 but we did all the little things. Our short game was really solid. We had four sacrifices. Both teams played well.

No errors. That's what you want to see, particularly this early in the season. I thought we could have scored a few more runs, but we let a couple of opportunities slip through our fingers. Still, it was a solid showing.

When Alicia tied the game it was just a classic battle between two great competitors.

Yeah, and I like the way we did it. Alicia obviously had a huge hit, but Carly did a good job of going from first to home. Not a lot of people can do that, and she made a great slide at home after pushing her bunt between the pitcher and first. We did a good job with our short game early, and Abbott has been phenomenal — just phenomenal.

You watch the babies in the fields and they?re trying to beat each other out there. So when they?re young, you keep them together.

We had a good combination of good hitting, very good pitching and fine defense.
