When I was 16 and 17, I used to follow the fire trucks on my bike. I was able to follow because they spilled water when they turned corners. When I turned 18, they changed the bylaws to let me volunteer, but I couldn't ride the trucks until I turned 21. I volunteered for the fire department for 37 years until Blue Ash became a village and they bought two trucks.

I'm also still with the American Legion after 37 years. They put me on the color guard so I have to hold the flags and march.

I delivered seven babies. My goal was to deliver a set of twins, but I never got the chance.

Then there was the time when we had a patient we were putting in the ambulance, and the ambulance took off leaving us in the middle of the street.

When I became chief of the life squad, my goal was to build a nice building where we could sleep and get out faster.

I'm on the board of directors. We go over things once a month and get involved in a lot of things.
