She has joined the struggle for the rights of children, women and indigenous peoples. She has raised awareness of the dangerous effects of climate change and destruction of rainforest ecosystems. She has promoted renewable energy and corporate social responsibility. She has addressed the ensuing erosion of civil liberties and opposed the death penalty.
She was formerly married to Mick Jagger, lead singer of The Rolling Stones.
