More Belinda Stronach on Wikipedia.For me this was a very difficult decision. I had to do a lot of reflection and inner searching. I came to the conclusion that I can best serve Canada and my constituents in this capacity.
The people of Newmarket- Aurora (her Ontario riding north of Toronto) elected me. They are the ones who will either re-elect me, or throw me out in the next election. I answer to the people of my community not to the political operators of the NDP.
At the end of the day you have to be driven by principle and you've got to be driven by passion and your belief in what this country can be.
When I made the decision to leave I could have potentially been in an election just two to three days after. Mr. Emerson campaigned as a Liberal and just a few days after the election made the decision to leave.
