FameRank: 4

"Barry Lane" is an England/English professional golfer.

Lane was born in Hayes, Hillingdon/Hayes, Middlesex. He turned professional in 1976 and first played on the European Tour in 1982. For the first few seasons he failed to finish high enough on the Order of Merit to retain his card and he made several visits to the Qualifying School, but by 1986 he was established on the tour. His best years came in the early to mid nineties, when he made the top ten of the order of merit three times, with a best of fifth in 1992. He won four European Tour events between 1988 and 1994. He had a relatively bad period in his later thirties, but after the turn of the Millennium his form improved again and he picked up his fifth win on the Tour at the 2004 Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters.

Lane has won several professional tournaments off of the European Tour, most lucratively the 1995 Andersen Consulting World Championship of Golf. This event was a precursor of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and Lane's prize was US$1,000,000, which was a very rare level of prize in golf at that time.

They really are things that might have meant something to employees. It was a fairly active bidding process.

I woke up this morning and told my wife I didn't think I would be able to play. Hopefully it is going to be all right for tomorrow, but you never know.

It's a shame but it was just one of those things that happen.

I think it's as a result of trying to fade the ball on the range on Tuesday and putting too much weight on the knee, but I took some anti-inflammatories and hopefully I will be okay for tomorrow.

I spent the last two weeks chipping harder than ever. I probably spent more time in the chipping green in the past nine days than I'd done in the first 20 years of playing.

I had a bit of grumpy period a few years back, but that's over now.

I pulled my tee shot a bit left but it didn't deserve to be two feet off the ground in the middle of a bush. It's been a funny year with Thomas (Bjorn) taking an 11 in the last round at the K Club but I think it's safe to say that's one thing that will never happen again.

That's 109 years between us but I shot Pete's age today so he's happy.

It's good to play with the youngsters and show them how it's done sometimes. I had a bad spell in the 1990s but the last three years I've really got back into it and practiced hard and I still enjoy it.
