Arrigo Sacchi
FameRank: 4

"Arrigo Sacchi" is an Italian football (soccer)/football coach. He was twice manager of A.C. Milan (1987–1991, 1996–1997), with great success. He won the Serie A title in his 1987–88 Serie A/1987-88 debut season and then dominated European football by winning back to back European Cups in 1989 European Cup Final/1989 and 1990 European Cup Final/1990. To this day, Milan are the last team that became European champions and successfully defended their title in the following season. From 1991 to 1996 he was head Coach (sport)/coach of Italy national football team/Italy and led them to the 1994 FIFA World Cup Final/World Cup Final in 1994, only to lose to Brazil national football team/Brazil in a penalty shoot-out. Sacchi is regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time.

Sacchi was never a professional football player (he had played as a part-time footballer in amateur clubs for some years) and for many years worked as a shoe salesman. This led to his famous quote to the ones that questioned his qualifications: "I never realized that in order to become a jockey you have to have been a horse first".

He asked to leave because this is World Cup year and here he wasn't always going to play. We didn't want to loan him out and only when a big offer arrived did we accept his transfer.

Real Madrid has always been happy with him and we thank him for what he has done here. We wish him all the luck in the future. He asked to leave because this is World Cup year and here he wasn't always going to play. We didn't want to loan him out and only when a big offer arrived did we accept his transfer.

We are upset because we've lost a great professional, a top-class player who was always very positive.

It was a good result in what was a difficult situation.

I'm not leaving because we're in a bad situation. I'm leaving even sadder. It's not easy to leave the most prestigious club in the world.

I would do what I've done at Parma these last 2 1/2 years. It means a specific technical role. Relations with players, coaches and physical trainers.

Real Madrid has lost a great professional. Real Madrid has been happy with him and we thank him for everything he has done here. He told us that he wanted to leave because it's a World Cup year and here he ran the risk of not always playing. We wanted to loan him and sell him only if it was a big offer. That [offer] arrived and we accepted.

The transfer is official.

He's now a player for the English club. We're saying this with disappointment because we have lost a great professional, a first-class player and a person who is always positive.
