The idea is to use digital, mechanical math so that as time goes by, it doesn't drift as it does with analog gears. So, our clock uses binary math, where we get to program any number, and get a digitally accurate number out of it, but with mechanics so that it's much more understandable to someone who comes up and looks at it.
"Alexander Rose" (1647-1720) was a Scottish scholar, minister of the Kirk/minister and bishop of the Kirk/bishop. He was a Church of Scotland Minister (religion)/minister before becoming Professor of Divinity, Glasgow/Professor of Divinity at the University of Glasgow and Principal of St Mary's College, St Andrews. He rose to become Bishop of Moray and then Bishop of Edinburgh. He was responsible for failing to convince King William III of England that the Scottish bishops could be trusted, leading to the abolition of Episcopacy in Scotland. Rose continued as a nonjuring bishop, eventually becoming leader of the informal and embryonic Scottish Episcopal Church.
