It is far less in several respects than what we were seeking, but it is something we've accepted. The details may shift. Let the two governments work it out.

The White House knows the U.S. industry still confronts serious issues including massive global over-capacity and a whole variety of foreign subsidies that encourage this over-capacity.

Yeah, it would hurt us, but I think there's a lot of cities it would hurt a lot worse.

It's not a pocketbook issue for the American consumer. We're already applying pretty low tariffs to China.

What one would want to see is a rising standard of living in China, ... so their people could afford to buy more of the world's goods, including our own. Their further integration into the world trade system is going to help that process.

There will be strong rights...to go after counterfeiting of goods. Implementation is going to be a real challenge. It's a big country with a lot of strong local governments that don't necessarily apply the rules. A lot of effort is going to be needed in China and monitoring by the U.S. to make sure implementation takes place.
