An 18-year-old kid can get confused in that situation. It's impossible to go around and tell every player what to do on every pitch. We have to learn as a team that in the late innings, which runners matter and which ones don't, and that wasn't the time to try and make a play.
We didn't really get what we expected out of either starting pitcher. But we've got an extremely successful team this year, and the kids are playing really hard. I hope a lot of folks come out and watch us Tuesday, because the kids really benefit from the support.
It's kind of a shocker. (Drugs) are something we talk about at the beginning of the season, including how a career could end and how bad they are for your bodies. We try to steer them in the right direction.
We should have been hitting all night, like the way we did in the fifth inning. We've got to focus more on the mental aspects of the game.
We'll take the positive from this.
It'll be a hard adjustment. I've been trying to reach a point where these guys have a killer instinct.
We haven't beaten these guys in a while, certainly not here. I'm told they've won 20-something straight games.
You could see our kids were out of steam. In both of our Saturday games, we were trying to hit the ball really hard and trying to take really big swings. They were tired.
We put the ball in play quite a bit at Grants. We only struck out eight times the whole day.
