There's a difference between reporting the story and publishing it. Our job is to get all the relevant information and then see what's worth publishing in the paper. But if the government is stopping us [from seeing official documents and attending court proceedings], that's a problem.

Liptak has written for The New Yorker, Vanity Fair (magazine)/Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, the New York Observer, Business Week and other publications. He was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Journalism in 2009 for a series of articles that examined ways in which the Law of the United States/American legal system differs from those of other developed nations.
