There is just so much possibility for tragedy. You never want an officer to pull a gun in an environment like a residence hall.

Given the fact that we're looking at 17 to 22 year olds, they aren't always as safe as they should be about their personal safety and the security of their items. I think we have a safe campus, but it can never be too safe.

We've made our department aware that these guns are out there, it's about all we can do.

There is no way of knowing. A small toy gun can sometimes fool the best of us. When officers respond to an emergency, they have to make a split-second decision; when all you see is the top part of a potential weapon, there's no way to tell a difference.
