We offered him before a lot of guys could have a chance to kind of evaluate the kid. He feels very comfortable to come to play for a guy who speaks Portuguese on the coaching staff and who understands the culture and who he feels is going to look out for him.

It's very hard to get a Division I job. I knew if I didn't go after this one now, it may have been another 10 years before a similar opportunity opened up.

It's been great to be around the team as a coach.

The hard part is, you have to figure out which kids care about school. If they want to come and play basketball and get an education, they're the kind of kids you have a shot on.

I don't want to give credit only for myself. I know we have a good program as well, but I think it's important for them to know who I am and what my background was.
