I always knew he was interested in engineering, and in what I was doing, but he surprised me by calling me to say he had accepted a job here.

Most earlier estimates of neutron-star speeds depended on educated guesses about their distances. With this one, we have a precise, direct measurement of the distance, so we can measure the speed directly.

This is the first result of this long-term project, and it's pretty exciting to have something so spectacular come this early.

It's sort of an awakening of sorts. Now that we have the technology to do this so easily, it might be a more normal thing in the future.
