Kevin was fine. I thought it was more an opportunity to wake up 18 guys and get ourselves back in the hockey game by doing what we have to do in terms of managing the puck, and maybe give yourself to play 5-on-5 hockey or better.

I'm thinking I'd better not make an emotional comment. I'll just sit down and think it through and do what's appropriate.

I wanted to get a checking line out against the [Scott] Gomez line. I thought that if I could do that, we could probably play our first two lines and maybe manufacture some offense.

It hurt us from that point of view. We had our practice all ready to go as we always do, but specifically for Pittsburgh.

This is one of our less disciplined nights this season. We've been noted for gaining respect from our opponents, and we don't want that to slip away.

Did we expect him to be on our No. 1 power-play unit at this stage of the season? Maybe, but only as an interim thing or if we needed a spark or whatever. Certainly he's secured himself as an offensive player on our team.

There's a certain standard that we have to pursue every day. Hopefully we are setting a standard for everyone here to really pursue and identify with.

We weren't intense enough. There was no real flow. We found a way to win and it wasn't pretty.

I'm not ready to wave the white flag on . We will have better nights than tonight.
