Cannes will never be a 300-film festival. The Official Selection represents about fifty [films], no more. [However], a large share of the world's production is presented at the Marche [du Film], the largest in the world.

This year we had to open the doors and windows to try and let in some new talent.

Art is always political. Film makers are not citizens from a different planet.

If 2005 was the year of the return of the grand authors, 2006 will be all the opposite.

This is a year of renewal. It is a year of taking risks.
