Commissioner Albert Hawkins has ordered that the coverage of these (enrollment fee) children be restored immediately. Letters to these families will go out as soon as possible, and they will be given sufficient time to pay the fee.

Clearly there are some learning-curve issues.

If we agree that there were overpayments, HHSC will bill school districts and return the federal share of the payments to the Medicaid program.

As a whole, we feel like the oversight of the contract has been very strong.

It's unclear at this point whether there's been an actual drop in the number of families returning their renewal packets or a difference in how the contractors report this information to the state.
