I think it's a leadership issue.

To my knowledge, I'm the only candidate who lives on the neighbor islands. The competition is probably going to be shaping up over the coming few months. It's hard to say exactly who is running.

Because of the potential conflicts of interest, both real and perceived, it is essential that we have an independent investigation so that the community is confident that all actions by all parties involved are thoroughly and impartially investigated.

I'm very concerned. We have about 60 dams like this and many more throughout the state, and they are old. The one that burst that caused this damage was built in 1890.

I believe living in the 2nd Congressional District the last 26 years gives me a certain understanding that maybe other candidates may lack. I want to be there (in Washington) to fight for those values.

I'd like the attorney general to step aside, do the right thing, support an independent investigation and let that move forward. Until we do that, we, as a community, will not have faith and confidence.

I believe I have the drive, the passion and the experience to make a positive difference.

To me, it's clear that we have a problem. I don't know who the good guys and the bad guys are, but I know it's a mess.

Working with my colleagues, we're focusing on making that a reality.
