Jeff Pearlman of ESPN.com said of Fasano: "When I think of Sal Fasano, however, I think of greatness. Not of Willie Mays or Ted Williams greatness, but of a uniquely excellent human being who, were class and decency the most valued standards of a career, would be the easiest Hall of Fame inductee of all time."[http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=pearlman/070406&sportCat=mlb ESPN Page 2 - Pearlman: A guy we'll miss]

I hope that's what we see Opening Day. What I saw I liked. He had good life on his fastball. His breaking ball was sharp. I think the time off might have helped him because his stuff was electric.

That's the theme so far, being able to get used to each other as a team, and picking each other up. We have a good team and that will happen.

I'm glad people aren't picking us to win this division or make the playoffs. That just means we're going to surprise people. I'm OK with that.

I got a lot flack for that. But that's OK.

I learned he's a power pitcher, a strikeout pitcher. It's a totally different mindset [with a pitcher like that].

He's not a glory hound. He just goes and does his job, and I'm sure he's happy keeping it that way.

The hardest thing to do is to separate your hitting from your catching. If you can't do that, you can't have success in this game. You want to be a complete player, but defense has to take precedence. I view myself where I can find a way to relate what the pitcher has and how to use it. That's my job.

Whenever you don't have fastball command, it's pretty tough to get everything else to work. If anything, it's a good learning experience to know that the fastball is the most important pitch you throw.

You always wonder how your career could've gone. I wish I would've had the opportunity to play every day when I was younger, just to see what kind of player I could've been.
