The whole thing is a con job by Mr. Alsup to extort money out of Ken and to free himself from charges pending.

[Defense attorney Robert Udell had argued before Judge Wennet that Brazill, who was 13 at the time of the shooting, was too young to face such a harsh sentence.] It tells you all you need to know about the United States of America in the year 2001, doesn't it? ... We've lost our soul.

We never said and I will not tell you that Nathaniel is not responsible for what happened here. His parents aren't at fault, the school is not at fault, the gun is not at fault. Nathaniel is at fault and only Nathaniel is at fault.

I think the judge has leeway from zero time in prison to life.

He's been held in jail [for a] long time. He's looking forward to his day in court to vindicate himself.

Not Nate, asking for a gun, right?

We'll concede that payment was made, but it didn't have anything to do with killing or non-killing of his wife. While they were in jail together, they started talking about some business plans. The payment was for services Mr. Alsup was going to perform relative to the plans they had, another reason Ken has to testify to explain.

[The tapes] reflect my client's best responses to a con job that Alsup was pulling. He's going to testify to explain the context in which the statements were made.

Any of you who have dealt with 13 year olds, or have one, know that they get stupid on us.
