As a practical matter, it could affect the kinds of assignments a judge gets. It could affect whether or not a judge would be approved by a Bar association or other screening committees for election. And nobody likes or enjoys the public criticism that a censure brings. It is significantly a deterrent and an educational tool for other judges to use as a guide for how to behave.
