"Sir Robert David "Rob" Muldoon" served as the List of Prime Ministers of New Zealand/31st Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1975 to 1984, as leader of the governing New Zealand National Party/National Party. Muldoon had been a Minister of Finance (a portfolio he also held while Prime Minister) and prominent member of the National Party and MP for the T?maki (New Zealand electorate)/Tamaki electorate in Auckland prior to becoming party leader in 1974.
During his time as a member of parliament and as Prime Minister, Muldoon was responsible for responding to a number of major challenges to the Economy of New Zealand/New Zealand economy, including the introduction of decimal currency in 1967, mini budgets, national superannuation, wage and price freezes, inflation and Think Big policies of the Third National Government of New Zealand/third National Government he led. Muldoon was a polarising figure and has been described as a "bully", an "enigma" and "a strong believer in the battler, the little man, the ordinary citizen and his or her rights".
