Hayworth appeared in a total of 61 films over 37 years, but is perhaps best known for her performance in the 1946 film noir Gilda. She is one of six women who have the distinction of having danced on screen with both Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. She is listed by the American Film Institute as one of the AFI's 100 Years... 100 Stars/100 Greatest Stars of All Time.

She died at the age of 68 from complications associated with Alzheimer's disease, which she was diagnosed with in 1980.
