Otto Weininger
FameRank: 3

"Otto Weininger" was an Austrian philosopher. In 1903, he published the book Geschlecht und Charakter (Sex and Character), which gained popularity after his suicide at the age of 23. Today, Weininger is viewed as misogyny/misogynistic and antisemitism/antisemitic by some in academic circles, but was held to be a great genius by the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein and the writer August Strindberg (see discussion below).

The fixed stars signify the angel in man. That is why man orients himself by them; and that is why women have no appreciation for the starry sky; because they have no sense of the angel in man.

No men who really think deeply about women retain a high opinion of them; men either despise women or they have never thought seriously about them.
