It's a country that's accustomed to elections every four years. Clean, crystalline, transparent elections.
Without a free trade agreement, no one, not national or foreign firms, will invest. We have many things that need to get done, and all those who oppose the free trade accord need to tell me how the heck we're going to do them.
I will have to pay attention to half of the population who didn't vote for me. But I can tell you that I know how to negotiate. I'm a conciliatory, humble listener.
The more freedom we enjoy, the greater the responsibility we bear, toward others as well as ourselves.
You should not have the least doubt that in this, we will not cede.
I thank the Costa Rican people for their confidence.
We'll have to be respectful of our democratic institutions and postpone the celebration of our irreversible triumph for another 24 hours. We didn't expect such a tight race.
Today, we'll make reality what the polls have been saying.
