Nelson Chamisa
FameRank: 4

"Nelson Chamisa" is a Zimbabwean politician and member of the House of Assembly of Zimbabwe for Kuwadzana, Harare. His charismatic speeches and eloquence saw him rise to become the Secretary for Information and Publicity for the opposition party Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai/Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), and former national youth chairperson for that party.

Hon Chamisa is an articulate orator in his own right. Hon Chamisa is a former chairperson of the MDC Youth Assembly. He was elected MDC spokesman at the party Congress in June 2006.In April 2011 at the Party's congress in Bulawayo, he was elected as the Party's Organising secretary, a post which previously belonged to Elias Mudzuri. In Parliament, he is a member of the portfolio committees of Defence and Home Affairs, Public Accounts, Gender and Youth and Transport and Communications. He is also a member of the Local Government, Public Works & Urban Development and the African Caribbean and Pacific Parliament. He is a former secretary-general of the Zimbabwe National Students Union.

In March 2007 he was attacked at Harare International Airport as he attempted to leave the country for Belgium; he was admitted to a hospital with a broken skull. On the current situation in Zimbabwe, he said, "There is no security. There is no protection. All of us are at risk."

Mugabe committed a lot of crimes against many people, political opponents, farmers and others. He is being haunted by his past crimes and so it is not surprising that he is determined to stay away from these people. When you abuse power, you will never feel secure.

Elsewhere in Zimbabwe, our executives at all levels are in constant consultation on the state of the party and the state of the struggle for democracy. There is no other way to national salvation except to confront this regime and take charge of our destiny. We reserve our democratic right to engage in any process that will make this regime realize the folly of its ways.

I have no doubt that Mr. Bennett will be in police custody by the end of the day.

No time as a party has the MDC engaged in some kind of undemocratic methods to remove the current government from power ... It is part of harassment against the opposition by this regime. I have no doubt that Mr. Bennett will be in police custody by the end of the day.

He followed all the relevant immigration laws to the letter.

The ploy is to make Zimbabweans passive consumers of government propaganda churned out by the state-owned media everyday. The ploy is to create a media terrain of government apologists and praise singers as if that alone will save the country from the deepening political and economic crisis.

What Nigeria did to Taylor is what Zimbabwe should do to Mengistu.

There is only one MDC congress and that is in Harare and 13 000 people drawn from the country's 12 provinces will attend.

It is an unfortunate and surprising incident. We were surprised to be told to go back when we had not violated any immigration laws. We did not jump the border.
