"Melvin G. Williams, Jr." is the Associate Provost for Military and Veterans Affairs at The George Washington University. Williams is the former Commander, United States Second Fleet/U.S. Second Fleet and former Director, Combined Joint Operations from the Sea Center of Excellence. After retiring from the US Navy in October 2010, Williams served as a Presidential Appointee for two years as the Associate Deputy Secretary of Energy.

In April 2013, Williams began service as the inaugural Associate Provost for Military and Veterans Affairs at The George Washington University. In this role, Williams oversees Operation GW VALOR, where veterans accelerate learning opportunities and rewards, on behalf of one of the top-ranked military-friendly schools in the nation.
