"Maurice Edward Clarett" is a former American football running back who played for the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League (2009–)/United Football League. During his freshman year at Ohio State University in 2002, he helped lead the Ohio State Buckeyes football/Buckeyes to a national championship. In a widely unexpected move, Clarett was drafted on the first day of the 2005 NFL Draft with the final pick of the 3rd round (#101 overall) by the Denver Broncos. He is well known for unsuccessfully challenging the National Football League/NFL's draft NFL draft eligibility/eligibility rules requiring a player to be three years removed from high school and for his tumultuous life outside of football, including his dismissal from Ohio State Buckeyes football/Ohio State, several arrests, and later, imprisonment.

That's the main thing -- like you're not loyal, you're not a Buckeye, ... But I can't control what other people think, write or say about me. So I don't really care about it too much.

[Shanahan said the Broncos] thought about ... I wasn't going to give him playing time and take away from our other four running backs.

I guess football's more important than a person's life to them.

I just want to get in there and work, work my butt off, anything to help the team, running the ball, special teams, anything. . . . I'm not sure if it's more motivation than other people, but I have to say my drive and my desire is very high right now. I can feel the energy.

I don't want to get into the contract thing with the public, ... It was just the best situation for me and the Broncos and the coaches. It's just what my agent sat down and did.

I just don't want to make them look stupid.
