This is a wonderful, wonderful day -- a victory for all of higher education, because what it means at its core is that affirmative action may still be used and the court's given us a road map to get there.

This project is about the social good of promoting and sharing knowledge. As a university, we have no other choice but to do this project.

We believe passionately that such universal access to the world's printed treasures is mission-critical for today's great public university.

We accepted full responsibility for the wrongdoing that occurred, and we felt that the loss of scholarships, extended probation, and other penalties imposed by the NCAA were an appropriately severe response to the violations. Our appeal was focused on the additional postseason ban, because we believed it fell disproportionately on the current, innocent players and coaches.

As educators, we are inspired by the possibility of sharing these important works with people around the globe. Think of the doors it will open for students; geographical distance will no longer hamper research.

Today we welcome the world to our library.
