FameRank: 5

"Mark Emery Roman" is a former American Football defensive back. While playing at LSU he was the freshman SEC Defensive player of the year. He was drafted out of LSU Tigers/LSU in the 2000 NFL Draft in the second round (34th overall) by the Cincinnati Bengals. He played there for four years as a cornerback and free safety before the Green Bay Packers signed him as a free agent in 2004. He played there for two years before being cut. The 49ers signed him three days later.

In 2009, Roman's agent asked the 49ers to seek a trade with another team.

Ultimately, I have to get the guy down. I'm a safety, that's my job. I'll shoulder the blame as far as that goes. But we just blew the call.

This is what helped me every day and allowed me to go out and practice and try not to let things bother me: People still haven't seen, I believe, what I have to offer.

We blew the coverage. But I still have to get the guy down.

If I could be out there each and every play running around I would be. But I can't right now, and that's just something I've got to deal with.

It's pretty bad. I don't know what to say. Nobody's used to this, nobody in here wants to get used to this. And some kind of way, we've got to turn it around. That's the only thing we can do, just turn it around.

We just blew it.

Sometimes do I think it was unjust? Yeah, but I can think about it all I want - it (isn't) going to change what's going on this year. I'm trying to put all that stuff as far away from my mind as I can possibly get it and just move on and try to prosper in this new year.

That's what keeps me out there trying to be perfect. Because I feel people still haven't seen the best of what Mark Roman can bring to their team on defense.

But regardless of whether I was injured or wasn't good enough or what have you, why - and I'm just posing this question to people who were thinking I was so bad - why would I still be out there?
