"Justin Hill" is an England/English novelist whose novels have been nominated for the Man Booker Prize three times. Born in Freeport, Bahamas/Freeport, Grand Bahama Island in 1971, he grew up in Yorkshire. He was educated at the historic St Peter's School, York/St Peter's School, York.

Hill was a member of St Cuthbert's Society, Durham University, where he studied English Language and Medieval Literature. After leaving university in 1992, he worked with the Voluntary Service Overseas/VSO for seven years in rural People's Republic of China/China and Eritrea.

His first novel, The Drink and Dream Teahouse, is a commentary on contemporary China.

Passing Under Heaven, reimagines the life of female poet Yu Xuanji.
