"Joseph Echols Lowery" is an American minister in the United Methodist Church and leader in the United States/American American Civil Rights Movement (1955-1968)/civil rights movement. He later became the third president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, after Martin Luther King/Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and his immediate successor, Ralph David Abernathy/Rev. Dr. Ralph Abernathy, and participated in most of the major activities of the African-American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.
