What we have created … is a major resource for our community for years to come. It's a work that will be read 100 years from now. We've given a voice to people largely ignored in previous books – African-Americans, Hispanics, women and other ethnic groups.

When I first envisioned this book back in 2002, I had no idea it would become the massive project it has become. It has been so long since local residents had the chance to participate by sending in family histories.
