Jean-Paul Marat
FameRank: 4

"Jean-Paul Marat" was a physician, political theorist and scientist best known for his career in France as a radical journalist and politician during the French Revolution. His journalism became renowned for its fierce tone, uncompromising stance toward the new leaders and institutions of the revolution, and advocacy of basic human rights for the poorest members of society.

Marat was one of the most radical voices of the French Revolution. He became a vigorous defender of the sans-culottes, publishing his views in pamphlets, placards and newspapers, notably his "L'Ami du peuple", which helped make him their unofficial link with the radical, republican Jacobin group that came to power after June 1793.

Marat was Assassination/assassinated by Charlotte Corday, a Girondist sympathizer, while taking a medicinal bath for his debilitating skin condition. In his death, Marat became an icon to the Jacobins, a sort of revolutionary martyr, as portrayed in Jacques-Louis David/David's famous The Death of Marat/painting of his death.

He was on his back. I don't think he ever saw where the puck was. He just made a swat at it. That's why he's one of the premiere players in the league. He makes plays like that.

Getting big, physical and muscle-bound isn't the way to go. Everyone needs to be flexible. They need to be fast.

I'm very excited. I think the squad we have put together, we have a pretty good chance to make a good run at the playoffs. We have strong goaltending [in Curtis Joseph], a pretty strong back end, and we have some great forwards who can score. I think we have a good combination.

He played fantastic for us tonight, its too bad we couldn't close it out for him in the third.

It seems like every single night there's 10 or 12 minors called against us. The reason why? We don't know. Is it because we're taking lazy penalties or is there a different reason? We can't explain it. I don't think anyone knows on this team. . . . We hope we're not being targeted for reasons unknown.

It's a pretty low period right now. We had two fantastic games versus Buffalo and Toronto, and to come down tonight with that type of performance is unexplainable.

It's an adjustment period. I think between the players, the refs and the coaches, the rules are a little bit hazy right now.

It's a big loss for us on the ice and off the ice. He's obviously a fantastic player on the ice, and in the locker room he's an awesome person to have around. Some players are going to have to step up in his absence. Hopefully, somebody will.

God has always been hard on the poor.

He was on his back and I don't even think he saw where the puck was and he took a swipe at it. That's why he is one of the premier players in the league.
