We weren't going to stand idly by and allow formations of 32-ton heavy equipment to drive across some of the Red Desert's most pristine and sensitive landscapes when low-impact methods would do the job just as well.
Our goal in these settlement negotiations will be to achieve a project method that will provide strong protections for wildlife, wilderness qualities and fossil resources.
This is a big loss for wildlife, because the wildlife of the field will die or be displaced into adjacent habitats that may already be at their carrying capacities.
Wildlife in this state are already being squeezed by a variety of new oil and gas projects, and new habitats simply aren't appearing out of thin air to make up for the accelerating rate of habitat loss.
Drilling multiple oil and gas (wells) would not only wreck the solitude of these remote areas, but would leave man-made scars on the landscape for centuries.
