"Enrico Fermi" was an Italians/Italian physicist, best known for his work on Chicago Pile-1 (the first nuclear reactor), and for his contributions to the development of Quantum mechanics/quantum theory, nuclear physics/nuclear and particle physics, and statistical mechanics. He is one of the men referred to as the "father of the atomic bomb". Fermi held several patents related to the use of nuclear power, and was awarded the 1938 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on induced radioactivity by neutron bombardment and the discovery of transuranic elements. He was widely regarded as one of the very few physicists to excel both theoretical physicist/theoretically and experimental physicist/experimentally.

It is no good to try to stop knowledge from going forward. Ignorance is never better than knowledge.

Emilio, I am getting rusty and old, I cannot follow the highbrow theory developed by Oppenheimer's pupils any more. I went to their seminar and was depressed by my inability to understand them. Only the last sentence cheered me up. It was: 'And this is Fermi's theory of beta decay.

There are two possible outcomes: If the result confirms the hypothesis, then you've made a measurement. If the result is contrary to the hypothesis, then you've made a discovery.

If I could remember the names of all these particles, I'd be a botanist.
