"Donald Ervin Knuth" is an American computer science/computer scientist, mathematician, and professor emeritus at Stanford University.

He is the author of the multi-volume work The Art of Computer Programming. Knuth has been called the "father of the analysis of algorithms". He contributed to the development of the rigorous analysis of the computational complexity of algorithms and systematized formal mathematical techniques for it. In the process he also popularized the Big O notation/asymptotic notation. In addition to fundamental contributions in several branches of theoretical computer science, Knuth is the creator of the TeX computer typesetting system, the related METAFONT font definition language and rendering system, and the Computer Modern family of typefaces.

Beware of bugs in the above code; I have only proved it correct, not tried it.

God is a challenge because there is no proof of his existence and therefore the search must continue.

Let us change our traditional attitude to the construction of programs. Instead of imagining that our main task is to instruct a computer what to do, let us concentrate rather on explaining to human beings what we want a computer to do.

Any inaccuracies in this index may be explained by the fact that it has been sorted with the help of a computer.

A list is only as strong as its weakest link.

I decry the current tendency to seek patents on algorithms. There are better ways to earn a living than to prevent other people from making use of one's contributions to computer science.

The most important thing in the kitchen is the waste paper basket and it needs to be centrally located.

If you optimize everything, you will always be unhappy.

An algorithm must be seen to be believed.
