The most-hated manager in British journalism.

When we find the right GM, he will have the responsibility going forward to make changes regarding the manager, coaches and trades. I would hope he looks at the job Charlie has done and say he did a pretty good job.

Family reunions are interesting.

The fact is, yes, our customers are important, ... We do listen to our fans. We do survey our fans. And we do try to connect with them. I'd be the first to tell you that we clearly need to do a better job at that. That starts with me and any contact we have with our fan base.

I would hope (the new GM) would take a look at the job Charlie did. We have a pretty good manager. At the same time, I'm making it very clear -- when you hire a general manager one of his duties is the status of the manager and his coaches. At the same time, we have an incumbent manager who has performed well.

I don't think that perception is accurate, ... I think I've said it many times: In my job, I probably do baseball about 15 percent of the time. And I'm a believer that you leave the baseball decisions (to) those who live it every minute of every day. And Ed certainly would be among that number.

This was a very difficult decision, ... No one works harder than Ed, and he has served this organization extraordinarily well for over 16 years. At the same time, we have not been able to achieve the goals we have set for the Phillies. As a result, I believe we have reached a point where a change is necessary.

I don't know if we'll end up with a sexy general manager, ... I'm not sure I know exactly what that means. It's important for us to get the right general manager.

This was a very difficult decision, ... I believe he's done a good job. We're a better club today than we were when he took over eight years ago. However, we set goals for ourselves. We haven't achieved those goals, and I think it's appropriate at this time that we find a new GM.
