Dan Marino
FameRank: 6

"Daniel Constantine "Dan" Marino, Jr." is an American former American football/football player who was a quarterback for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). The last quarterback of the 1983 NFL Draft/Quarterback Class of 1983 to be taken in the first round, Marino held or currently holds dozens of NFL records associated with the quarterback position. Despite never being on a Super Bowl-winning team, he is recognized as one of the greatest quarterbacks in football history. Best remembered for his quick release and powerful arm, Marino led the Dolphins to the playoffs ten times in his seventeen-season career. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame/Hall of Fame in 2005.

He led Miami Dolphins/the Miami Dolphins to an AFC championship in the 1984 season, only his second season in the NFL. During that year, he threw a then-NFL record 48 Touchdown pass/touchdown passes. Despite the 14–2 season and Marino's touchdown record, the Dolphins lost Super Bowl XIX 38–16 to the 15–1 1984 San Francisco 49ers season/San Francisco 49ers.

The scoreboard can't make you a loser. If you walk off the field with your head up, you don't lose. You don't hang your head for nobody. People in the stands think you're the greatest or the worst - their opinion doesn't make a difference. The only opinion that makes any difference is your own opinion of yourself. Nobody can make you a loser.

There is no defense against a perfect pass. I can throw the perfect pass.

I think it's more and more important to spend time with your children, because it seems to be harder and harder for them to succeed as their parents have succeeded.

You have to feel you're the best at what you do. You don't have to come out and say it. But you have to know it within yourself.

I'm getting married because I'm in love with a girl and want to spend my life with her. You can't live your life doing what other people want you to or you'll be miserable. At some point you just have to be yourself.

I'm a very happy man. In everyday life, just walking around, I'm a fairly pleasant person to be around most of the time. Basically, I'm pretty mellow. Really, the only time I ever get upset is when I'm playing football. When things aren't going right or something, that's when I get the most upset.

Once it's gone, it's gone. Golfers get to play their sport just about their whole lives, baseball players play a pretty long time. But football, it's over fast, and once it's over you're not going to get that same feeling, the competition, Sunday afternoon. Everything about it is going to be over.

I look at it this way. I'm not putting age limits on what I can do. As long as I can do the job to help the team win and feel like I'm playing at a high level, which I feel I can do for a long while, I'm going to play no matter what my age is.

As a team, you need to come from behind every once in awhile just to do it. Good for the attitude. It makes it exciting. And when everybody knows you have to throw it... that makes it fun too.
