I would regularly hear from blue-collar workers who feared losing their jobs because they didn't speak Spanish.

I'm used to them saying things about me. Everything I'm trying to do has solid legal ground. It's not a matter of racism. For me it's a matter of protecting our borders and properly enforcing our laws.

I'd like to think when my political career is over, people will remember me for something other than immigration.

I'd like to work on other issues. I still want to change our tax laws and I still want to work on education. I just don't want to be known as the illegal immigration guy.

That was something I figured I really knew a lot about, and I was looking forward to having a program where the biggest thing you talked about was maybe the game the night before.

I'm not even a lawyer but it feels like I've had about two years of law school on immigration.

It's kind of funny now because that was never the thing I wanted to be known for.

That's when I began to look into how our laws simply aren't being enforced.
